Jorja Follina
Dance Artist based in Edinburgh
Through performance, teaching and wellbeing projects, my practice is centred around sharing arts and movement with others. As a performer I find powerful and complex movement rewarding, with a particular interest in outdoor, site specific and interactive experiences. As a facilitator I aim to nurture encouraging and inclusive environments in which participants feel invited to move, observe, explore, discuss and play.
Trained at The Scottish School of Contemporary Dance, I completed a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Dance Performance with First Class Honours. After graduating, I was awarded a Bridge Award Internship with Scottish Dance Theatre during which I set up my community wellbeing project, Re-Mind, and was a member of Dance Base’s DEBS Scheme. Having facilitated for a number of dance organisations, community projects and charities across the UK, I enjoy sharing arts and movement with people of all ages and backgrounds.
I have performed professionally with Shaper/Caper, Flux Intermedia, Dumfries and Galloway Dance, Rob Heaslip Dance, Kathryn Gordon, Malcolm Sutherland and Roisin O’Brien. A founding member of multidisciplinary collective The Norm Project and Detour (Movement By Bike), I am always open to collaborating with other artists and developing new skills. I enjoy physical challenges and working outdoors, with a real passion for improvisation.
With a participatory practice centred around wellbeing, enjoyment and awareness, I am interested in ways to bring agency and individuality into guided practices. Driven by the benefits arts and movement can have on our physical and mental health, I aim to continually share dance with others, inspiring them to move and get creative.
